628 S. Washington St. — Seattle's International DistrictOver 10,000 square feet of history, character, and flexibility - in the heart of Seattle.
Nippon Kan Theatre is a working theatrical space turned landmark event venue in Seattle's International District. The bones — original architecture, soaring ceilings, hardwood floors, a built-in stage — have been here since 1909. Everything else has been thoughtfully restored to support the events of today.

The main event
Main theatre floor
The heart of the venue. An open floor plan with hardwood floors, soaring ceilings, and exposed architectural details that have been here for over a century. The space is deliberately flexible — 300 guests for a formal seated dinner, 400 in theatre-style rows for a ceremony or keynote, or a flowing standing reception for larger gatherings.
Natural light comes through large windows facing the International District. In the evening, the house lighting system transforms the room entirely.

The overview
Mezzanine
The mezzanine wraps the main floor from above, creating a natural second level that changes how the whole room feels. For weddings, it offers a dramatic overhead view of the ceremony. For performances and corporate events, it provides sightlines no flat floor plan can match.
It works equally well as cocktail overflow, a dedicated bar area, or a quieter place to gather away from the main floor. The mezzanine accommodates additional standing guests and extends the flow of the event without ever feeling like an afterthought.

The Stage
Most venues call their elevated platform a stage. Nippon Kan's stage is the real thing — a built-in, elevated theatrical stage that has hosted performances, community gatherings, and cultural events since 1909.
It comes equipped with theatrical lighting and the house sound system, making it functional from the moment your vendors walk in. For weddings, it becomes a ceremony backdrop with natural drama. For corporate events, it anchors a keynote or panel without a rental riser. For performances, it is simply what it has always been.

Layout options
The space works around your event, not the other way around.
Every event gets a custom floor plan. Below are the most common configurations — your layout is always built around your guest count, flow, and vision.
Banquet / reception
Round tables across the main floor. Up to 300 seated guests. Common for wedding receptions, galas, and seated dinners.
Theatre / ceremony style
Rows facing the stage. Up to 400 guests. Ideal for wedding ceremonies, performances, keynotes, and presentations.
Combined Ceremony + Reception
Ceremony on the main floor or stage, then reset for dinner or dancing. Many couples host their full wedding day here without moving venues. Our team manages the transition.
The best way to understand the space is to see it.
Tours are available in person and virtually, by appointment. We'll walk you through the layout, talk through your event, and answer every question you have.
